Improper driving practices can shorten the lifespan of automotive parts.
2022/01/27
Everyone develops their own driving habits while behind the wheel. However, some of these habits are actually bad driving practices that develop over time. Such improper driving behaviors can directly affect the lifespan of your car’s components. If someone with these bad driving habits doesn’t realize it or fail to correct them, it won’t be good for their beloved vehicle—and repair costs can quickly become a significant part of their living expenses.
What are some bad driving habits?
1. The car has been in a semi-engaged state for an extended period.
Driving habitually with the clutch depressed causes significant wear and tear on the clutch. This issue often affects novice drivers. At this point, shifting into second gear when starting off is also one of the factors that contribute to clutch wear.
2. Drive without releasing the handbrake.
Forgetting to release the parking brake before starting the car, and frequently stepping on the brake while driving—these behaviors cause significant wear on the brake pads, leading to their damage.
3. Shift gears before the clutch is fully disengaged.
Novice drivers, due to their lack of familiarity with the car, tend to feel anxious while driving and often shift gears before fully depressing the clutch. This practice can easily damage both the clutch and the transmission.
4. Don't press the clutch when braking suddenly.
When a vehicle is subjected to emergency braking, forgetting to fully depress the clutch can lead to traffic accidents and pose significant risks.
5. Don't shift into reverse until the vehicle has come to a complete stop.
When the vehicle isn't fully stabilized, the gear shift is moving forward. If the vehicle suddenly reverses, causing the gears to stop abruptly, the gears will reverse direction. Repeated occurrences of this can lead to excessive wear on the gears, and poor gear engagement may easily result in the transmission slipping out of gear, ultimately requiring a major overhaul of the transmission.
6. Even when hitting the curb, they charge straight ahead.
When crossing ditches or bumps, slow down in advance rather than forcing your way through. This not only ensures a smoother ride but also protects your shock absorbers, springs, and suspension system.
7. Keep holding the window regulator without letting go.
When using the power window regulator to raise or lower the window, be sure to release your hand promptly once the window has reached the bottom or the top position. Improper operation can easily lead to abnormal window movement.
8. The steering wheel is turned too far.
When turning the steering wheel, avoid keeping it fully turned for extended periods, as this can shorten the lifespan of the hydraulic power steering pump.
9. Frequently turn the combination switch on and off.
Car headlights shouldn't be switched on and off too frequently. As we all know, frequently turning household lights on and off can damage the bulbs—and the same principle applies to car headlights.
Many auto parts are quite delicate. When driving, owners should take extra care to protect their vehicles and avoid damaging them through improper driving habits. If you find that you have any of these bad habits, please correct them immediately.
