Global car sales for the first half of 2018

2022/01/27

JATO, a global information and consulting organization for the automotive industry, recently published its report on global automotive sales for the first half of 2018 by collecting sales data from 57 national markets. Although the global economy is being threatened by the uncertainty of trade wars between economies, favorable economic dynamics in the U.S., improving indicators in Europe, and China's expanding economy are three key factors driving the automotive market. According to the data, global auto sales reached 44.03 million units in the first half of the year, up 3.6 percent from 42.49 million units in the same period last year

From the market point of view

The top three markets for global auto sales in the first half of the year were China, the United States and Japan, in that order. India overtook Germany to take the fourth spot with 1,982,442 vehicles sold in the first half of the year. According to LMC Automotive, India is predicted to overtake Japan as the world's third-largest car seller by 2021. If the 29 European countries are counted as a single market, then the overall European market is second with 9.77 million...

Although China ranked No. 1 in auto sales in the first half of the year, its 3.9 percent sales increase in the first half was the second-lowest performance since 2009.JATO believes that the U.S.-China trade war and the Chinese government's efforts to curb its spiraling debt, thus tightening its control over bank lending, will affect the development of China's auto market. China's auto sales remained largely stable in June as growth in sedan sales offset declining sales of SUVs and MPVs.

Complete vehicle and parts

In 2010, China's auto parts industry made significant progress thanks to the rapid development of automakers. This highlighted the importance of collaborative development between auto parts and automaker enterprises, including simultaneous development, automaker support, and increased use of domestic auto parts. If automakers focus on purchasing foreign parts, it could lead to foreign control of key components and significant losses for domestic parts companies.

Challenges in the Development of Auto Parts

The commercial vehicle parts industry is highly fragmented, with most companies being newly established individual enterprises. For these small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), the initial capital investment is already substantial, and post-production profits are not high. Therefore, it is relatively difficult to encourage them to increase R&D investment. Moreover, the prices of auto parts raw materials have been rising steadily for a certain period, requiring enterprises to allocate a significant portion of their funds to raw materials.

Automotive parts performance testing

There are seven factors that affect cylinder sealing, mainly cylinder wear, piston ring damage, piston wear, valve seat damage, valve guide wear, cylinder gasket damage, and valve clearance.
